Our beloved Pam went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2022.
She was dear to the Battle Against Hunger and sought to serve in her quiet, caring, empathic way. She was a beloved servant of Christ. Many have asked how they can make donations or contribute somehow in memory of Pam. We have arranged for Battle Against Hunger to take general donations. All funds received will be disseminated evenly among organizations that Battle Against Hunger supports and will go directly to these organizations.

The big ride starts tomorrow! Did you intend to volunteer or contribute somehow, but never got around to it? You’re in luck! You can still donate to any rider or participant you choose, all weekend.
Please visit our fundraising portal to provide a monetary donation. You can also contribute by cheering at the finish line! Riders will finish Sunday evening at the General Greene Pavilion at Washington Crossing State Park, Pennsylvania. Most of all, please pray for they safety of our riders and support team this weekend! We are so excited for the 2019 BAH weekend!
Have you been considering joining the ride or the SAG team? It’s not too late! Contact us and we’ll get you registered :-) As usual, we will have dinner as a group for anyone interested on Friday evening, September 13, in Gettysburg. The 2-day ride will begin early Saturday, September 14. One-day riders will start early Sunday, September 15. We have many options for one-day riders: join us for 100 miles, 63 miles, or 25 miles. Or join us for the fun towpath walk! Please review the Participant Manual if you would like detailed information about the routes, SAG support, and general area. We look forward to seeing you this weekend!
Denny and Penny, you are known for your fundraising efforts and reliable participation. Thank you! Please share a little about yourselves. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in June. Denny grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Penny in Madison, New Jersey. We now reside in West Trenton New Jersey. We have 2 daughters, a son in law, granddaughter 20 and grandson 14. We are blessed in that they all live within 10 miles of us. When did you begin volunteering, riding, or contributing to Battle Against Hunger? How did you hear about it? The first year of the ride we drove to Gettysburg to congratulate the riders as they biked into the town square. Founder Chuck Inman was a member of our church and convinced us to get involved to support TASK and the Rescue Mission of Trenton. Bob Kales rode at age 60 or so and he inspired me (Denny) to try it year two. I took it on mostly as a one-time personal challenge. As I got to know the people we were supporting, I knew I would have to continue. I rode the 200 miles eight or nine times and then gradually cut back to 100, then 65, and now 30 miles. How have you served Battle Against Hunger? Riding and Support and Gear (SAG) to raise over $70,000. What do you enjoy the most about Battle Against Hunger? The camaraderie of the team and seeing the tremendous good that these two organizations do. Getting to become friends with the patrons and staff of TASK and the Rescue Mission of Trenton. What is your favorite Battle Against Hunger memory? Riding the entire 200 miles one year with a Rescue Mission of Trenton resident who went on to live independently. Please tell us anything else you would like people to know about Battle Against Hunger. WARNING - once you are involved it will be in your blood. It's not about how many miles but about the smiles you will bring to peoples faces. Have you ever contributed, volunteered for, or participated in Battle Against Hunger in any manner? Would you like to let us know about it? Leave us a note and we might feature you in our next Participant Spotlight!
Ron and Ginny, you have participated in the Battle Against Hunger for several years now. Please tell us a little about yourselves. We are members of St Matthew's Church and have both grown up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. We have five children and love being outdoors. When did you begin volunteering, riding, or contributing to Battle Against Hunger? How did you hear about it? We heard about the Battle Against Hunger when a parishioner named Chuck Inman stood up to ask for volunteers to begin this journey to raise money to help support those in need of food and shelter in our immediate area. He explained that we would take two days to ride from Pennington to Gettysburg. We spoke to our children and they encouraged us to go for it. We had never ridden a road bike before. We started training with guidance from Chuck. We rode the first year with five riders total. Pam Inman and Bob Blackmar were our Support and Gear (SAG) along with the Mission Truck and two very special drivers, who have become family to us. How have you served Battle Against Hunger? We do both riding and SAG, alternating and enjoy both aspects of the journey equally. What do you enjoy the most about Battle Against Hunger? We love the company, scenery and feeling of joy coming from knowing we are helping others as we enjoy friends, fresh air and exercise. What is your favorite Battle Against Hunger memory? My favorite memories are on Sunday mornings, looking down into the Lancaster valleys, seeing young farm animals, families heading to church and breathing in the fresh (often farm smelled ) odors. Ron's favorite memory is a year when he and Chuck stopped by the road side prior to being done the day's ride and sat quietly, talking, resting and petting a young calf. It is a treasured memory for Ron. Please tell us anything else you would like people to know about Battle Against Hunger. What we love the most is the people we have met, both through the Rescue Mission, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, and along for the ride each year. Our memories are forever embedded as some of the best and we are beyond thankful that we were lead into this and have remained part of it for so long. Ron and Ginny, thank you for diligently participating in the Battle Against Hunger each year! Have you participated in the Battle Against Hunger? Do you have some fun memories to share? Drop us a note on the contact page if you wouldn't mind us asking you a few questions for an upcoming blog post!
As we think of how very blessed we are to live in this wonderful country, where we have the freedom to believe and speak as we wish, let's celebrate by committing to serve others with another great year with BAH!
The registration page is now open for the 2017 ride, and we are looking forward to breaking the $1 million mark!! Join us for another great year. You won't regret it! Have you thought of registering to ride or SAG, but are unsure because you don't know where you'd fit in? Reach out to us and let us know! We truly have volunteer and ride opportunities for everyone and will welcome your participation. From the BAH family, we wish you a wonderful 4th and hope you can celebrate with us by committing to the 2017 ride, which will benefit organizations in more ways than we will ever know. As we gear up for training for the 2017 ride, let's remember: 2016 was a great year for BAH! Attached is some feedback from riders and SAG participants. The themes of friendly SAG teams, camaraderie, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches seem to be apparent. :)
Expressions of thanks abound following a very successful 2016 for BAH. Below are just a selection of remarks on a job well done. We are grateful the BAH 2016 ride resulted in no injuries and a great fundraising total, so far!
"A line I heard during a speech on a ride several years ago, echos with me each year. 'Do what you love and do it to help others.' Thanks again to all for a wonderful and successful weekend." "A want to join in with a huge thank you to everyone for supporting BAH ! This event raises so much money for our food cupboard that we could not feed the hungry here at CYC with out it. Just think of the thousands of people that will not be hungry this year because you worked so hard for this amazing event. We could not do it with out your sacrifice for this cause." "It's so wonderful to share such an amazing weekend with so many members of this Beloved Community; to share Chuck's memory, passion and compassion, and to try to carry on a legacy worthy of the man he was. As I write this last entry of the weekend, I'm aware of that familiar feeling of exhausted gratitude and utter humility at the magnificence of God's work in the world and what it can look and feel like when we join in!" "We are grateful to God that we belong to a group that shares fellowship with one another while helping bring hope and daily needs to lives of others." "Unimaginably hot weather notwithstanding, we have successfully completed yet another ride and another year! There were a number of new riders who succeeded in completing the entire 2-day route! Quite an accomplishment this year! Congratulations especially to you but also to all who participated!" "There is nothing more fulfilling than riding for a cause greater than oneself." The 2016 ride was a great success! Thanks to all who made it possible. The riders braved the heat and the BAH leadership tirelessly gave of themselves to ensure the riders and volunteers were well-organized and safe. Thanks to all!
The fundraising total for 2016 has not been announced yet, but we will update the site to show it, when we have the numbers. The BAH FirstGiving fundraising page currently shows a total of $52,238, just for online donations. WOW! A huge thanks to all who have donated to benefit organizations committed to fighting poverty and alleviating hunger. We'll be updating the photos on the website soon, too! So stay tuned. As we gear up for a great ride this year, the BAH team needs to remind all riders of some important information. First, all participants in BAH must complete the Participant Information Form, below.
All Riders must complete both the Participant Form and the Checklist! We will also collect a copy of your identification and insurance information. The BAH leadership team will also go over the topics in the Information Sheet at the MANDATORY rider meeting. Riders will have the opportunity to ask questions, so come prepared!
Please BE AWARE that the forecast calls for very hot temperatures on Saturday. Please make certain you've read and understand the safety information about heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you have questions please ask! We are looking forward to a great ride this year! |
