Denny and Penny, you are known for your fundraising efforts and reliable participation. Thank you! Please share a little about yourselves.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in June. Denny grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Penny in Madison, New Jersey.  We now reside in West Trenton New Jersey.
We have 2 daughters, a son in law, granddaughter 20 and grandson 14.  We are blessed in that they all live within 10 miles of us.

When did you begin volunteering, riding, or contributing to Battle Against Hunger? How did you hear about it?

The first year of the ride we drove to Gettysburg to congratulate the riders as they biked into the town square. Founder Chuck Inman was a member of our church and convinced us to get involved to support TASK and the Rescue Mission of Trenton. Bob Kales rode at age 60 or so and he inspired me (Denny) to try it year two.  I took it on mostly as a one-time personal challenge.

As I got to know the people we were supporting, I knew I would have to continue. I rode the 200 miles eight or nine times and then gradually cut back to 100, then 65, and now 30 miles.

How have you served Battle Against Hunger?

Riding and Support and Gear (SAG) to raise over $70,000.

What do you enjoy the most about Battle Against Hunger?

The camaraderie of the team and seeing the tremendous good that these two organizations do.  Getting to become friends with the patrons and staff of TASK and the Rescue Mission of Trenton.

What is your favorite Battle Against Hunger memory?

Riding the entire 200 miles one year with a Rescue Mission of Trenton resident who went on to live independently.

Please tell us anything else you would like people to know about Battle Against Hunger.

WARNING - once you are involved it will be in your blood. It's not about how many miles but about the smiles you will bring to peoples faces.

Have you ever contributed, volunteered for, or participated in Battle Against Hunger in any manner? Would you like to let us know about it? Leave us a note and we might feature you in our next Participant Spotlight!
