Atlantic City Rescue Mission

Founded in 1964 by a group of Christian businessmen, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission has provided help and hope to countless individuals seeking refuge from life's storms. The Atlantic City Rescue Mission's deep commitment to The Lord Jesus Christ motivates staff and volunteers in their quest to meet the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the poor, homeless and addicted.

The Mission does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, age, handicap, religion or origin, but sets itself apart by bringing the hope of God to those seeking help. The Mission's many programs strive to bring each man, woman and family to self-sufficiency within a Christian environment.

In addition to nutritious meals, the Mission guests receive training, counseling and intervention services geared to promoting the job and life skills needed to succeed. The Mission's staff and clients rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers and donors. The generosity of others helped the Mission minister to more than 3,265 people and provide 360,780 nourishing meals to the hungry in 2008.  The Mission welcomes all types of donations. Volunteer positions are also available.

The Crisis Ministry of Princeton and Trenton

The Crisis Ministry partners with the community to achieve stability for neighbors in need. It was founded in 1980 by Trinity Episcopal Church and Princeton's Nassau Presbyterian Church, where the organization's Princeton office is located, and is responding to a dramatic and sustained increase in need, serving 30% more households in 2009 than in 2008. It welcomes to its two locations some 1,400 individuals and families each month who seek food and/or emergency financial assistance to avoid homelessness or utility shut-off, or to pay for a prescription medicine.

During the summer months, the sidewalk outside the organization's Trenton storefront transforms into an open-air Community Farmers Market, offering seasonal, locally grown produce to more than 200 families each Wednesday morning. The Crisis Ministry also provides welfare-to-work retail training through its Harvesting Hope program and, with partner Capital Health System, quarterly health screenings for seniors hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Trenton.

Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties

Although Jewish Family Service is located in Margate, their food pantry serves ALL residents of Absecon Island and Atlantic County.  Jewish Family Service depends enormously on the contributions they receive from within this community.

While in some cases food pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding operations close after running out of supplies, Jewish Family Service has never turned away a person or family in need.

Your donations of food may be your neighbors', schoolmates', or an older adult's only source of nutrition for the day. High protein items such as peanut butter, canned chicken as well as other non-perishable items are distributed daily.

This community has answered the call in the past, and JFS is convinced you will answer the call now.  Food donations can be dropped off during weekday business hours.  They will pick up items from any group organizing a food drive.  Dollars can help them go even further - no amount is too small.

The mission of Jewish Family Service is to strengthen and promote Jewish individual, family, and community well-being.

In keeping with Jewish values and the spirit of tikkun olam (healing the world) they are committed to providing services to the entire community regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.

"If I am not for myself who will be for me?  If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?" Rabbi Hillel

Toni's Kitchen
More than soup...Feeding the Soul

Named for its first cook, the late Toni (Antoinette) Green, the program has been in continuous operation since its founding in 1982. A hot nutritious meal is served every Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well on Christmas Day. Except for their cooks, who are paid a modest stipend, the kitchen is staffed by volunteers of all faiths from throughout the community.

Much of the food is donated by local organizations, business establishments and individuals, and serving is done by volunteers.

A food ministry at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Montclair, NJ, Toni's Kitchen's mission is "To Serve Our Guests". Every effort is made to provide an atmosphere of warmth and respect for those among us who find themselves in need of their hospitality.
