This week we're kicking off a set of profiles on Battle Against Hunger participants.

Ron and Ginny Buchanan were two of the first people who come to mind for those who serve in the Battle Against Hunger. Ron and Ginny have participated in the Battle Against Hunger since its creation.

Everyone looks forward to seeing Ginny's bright smile and counting on Ron's diligent help year after year.

Ron and Ginny, you have participated in the Battle Against Hunger for several years now. Please tell us a little about yourselves.
We are members of St Matthew's Church and have both grown up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. We have five children and love being outdoors.

When did you begin volunteering, riding, or contributing to Battle Against Hunger? How did you hear about it?
We heard about the Battle Against Hunger when a parishioner named Chuck Inman stood up to ask for volunteers to begin this journey to raise money to help support those in need of food and shelter in our immediate area.
He explained that we would take two days to ride from Pennington to Gettysburg.  We spoke to our children and they encouraged us to go for it. We had never ridden a road bike before.  We started training with guidance from Chuck.
We rode the first year with five riders total. Pam Inman and Bob  Blackmar were our Support and Gear (SAG) along with the Mission Truck and two very special drivers, who have become family to us.

How have you served Battle Against Hunger?
We do both riding and SAG,  alternating and enjoy both aspects of the journey equally.

What do you enjoy the most about Battle Against Hunger?
We love the company, scenery and feeling of joy coming from knowing we are helping others as we enjoy friends, fresh air and exercise.

What is your favorite Battle Against Hunger memory?
My favorite memories are on Sunday mornings, looking down into the Lancaster valleys, seeing young farm animals, families heading to church and breathing in the fresh (often farm smelled ) odors.
Ron's favorite memory is a year when he and Chuck stopped by the road side prior to being done the day's ride and sat quietly, talking, resting and petting a young calf. It is a treasured memory for Ron.

Please tell us anything else you would like people to know about Battle Against Hunger.
What we love the most is the people we have met, both through the Rescue Mission,  Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, and along for the ride each year. Our memories are forever embedded as some of the best and we are beyond thankful that we were lead into this and have remained part of it for so long.

Ron and Ginny, thank you for diligently participating in the Battle Against Hunger each year!

Have you participated in the Battle Against Hunger? Do you have some fun memories to share? Drop us a note on the contact page if you wouldn't mind us asking you a few questions for an upcoming blog post!
